This change turned his intestines into the snake that surrounds him. In Taoism, the Black Tortoise is deemed to be one of the most important gods. People still believe in him today. If one is possessed by an evil spirit, he/she will ask the Black Tortoise to purify him/her, or the person will ask the Tortoise to protect him/her against attacks.
